August bank holiday is now just a dim memory and Christmas is still too far away to start counting the days on the wall of my office. This long haul is just one of the reasons why the TUC is campaigning to make the last Monday of October the new Community Day bank holiday.

Nearly one million UK businesses could benefit from a new bank holiday, according to a new TUC report – Why the UK can afford a Community Day.

Philip Johnson in the Telegraph writes:

"The one time of the year when we have nothing to look forward to is between the late August holiday and Christmas. So, why not a holiday in October, to coincide with half-term?"

We've produced a new leaflet and poster for Community Day, which you can download and print out here. We want to get the message to every volunteering community in the UK, so please print out a copy and stick up the poster page on the noticeboard at your club, group, school or workplace.
