August bank holiday is now just a dim memory and Christmas is still too far away to start counting the days on the wall of my office. This long haul is just one of the reasons why the TUC is campaigning to make the last Monday of October the new Community Day bank holiday.

Philip Johnson in the Telegraph writes:

"The one time of the year when we have nothing to look forward to is between the late August holiday and Christmas. So, why not a holiday in October, to coincide with half-term?"

Talk of a new bank holiday is never far from people’s lips and St. Georges Day was yet another flashpoint. Many of us sat in our offices wondering how we could heed the Daily Mail’s call to celebrate our national day while still carrying on with our jobs.
